About Beulah HDFC

“We don’t just renovate buildings, we build communities.”

TAKE ACTION

Our Mission

Group of women at a community event, some wearing blue sashes, standing in front of a banner that reads "South Bronx Churches" with balloons nearby.

Beulah HDFC, Inc. (formerly South Bronx Churches Morrisania Cluster HDFC) develops and preserves affordable housing in the South Bronx while training residents to become community leaders. We’re not a social service agency or building managers — we build leadership, strategy, and collective action to improve neighborhood life.

Our Story

A community event with a stage, balloons, and a large banner that reads 'South Bronx Churches, Morrisania Cluster H.D.F.C., Inc., and Resolutions and Developments.' Three people are standing on the stage, one of whom is speaking into a microphone, while the other two are listening. One woman is holding a trophy or award, and the backdrop shows additional blue and white balloons and posters with the event's theme.

Founded in 1992 out of South Bronx Churches, Beulah began by renovating abandoned Morrisania buildings through NYC’s HPD Vacant Buildings Program. By 1993, 138 apartments were completed across seven buildings — sparking a legacy of community-driven renewal. The name Beulah, meaning “married” in Hebrew, symbolizes the reconnection between people and once-desolate land.

Over the years, Beulah has expanded through projects like Bronx Heights Beulah, Beulahland, and 1212 MLK LP — creating more than 600 quality affordable housing units across dozens of buildings. Our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and resident leadership continues to strengthen the South Bronx today.
